The Assam state government has announced the Assam Muslim Marriage Divorce Registration 2024. The Assam state government introduced the Assam Muslim Marriage Divorce bill to make all the marriages or divorces of Muslims registered under the government registrar. Now all the citizens of Assam state who are Muslim must register their marriages or devices under the government registrar. The new bill replaces the earlier law, the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorce Registration Act, 1935, which had the provision of registering marriages and divorces through Kazis. The chief minister of Assam state Mr Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced a new bill to make it mandatory for all Muslim citizens to register their marriages or divorces. According to the Government of Assam state, this bill will not interfere with any Muslim marriages and divorces taking place. The Muslim marriages or devices will be conducted as per the existing Muslim laws but now they must register under the government registrar. The main purpose of launching the new bill is to reduce the number of child marriages and polygamy in the Assam state.

The main objective of launching the Assam Muslim Marriage Divorce Registration is to eliminate the social evil of child marriage and polygamy in Assam.
